Mrs Syed is our EYFS lead. Miss Gallagher also teaches in EYFS, and Mrs Towsey and Mrs Banks are our Teaching Assistant team working with the Foxes and Squirrels this year.
Last week, in preparation for Remembrance Day, the Foxes and Squirrels made beautiful handprint poppy wreaths, ready to hang on the gate for everyone to see today. We talked about why people wear poppies and why it is so important to think about and remember all of the people that were involved in the war. The Foxes and Squirrels were so respectful when observing a minutes silence during our special Remembrance assembly today. Well done, Foxes and Squirrels!
Diwali Dance Workshop
This week, the Foxes and Squirrels enjoyed a fabulous Diwali dance workshop with a West End performer! Our challenge was to tell the story of Rama and Sita, without using our voices or any words! The children were fantastic and thoroughly enjoyed learning and performing the dance - as did the adults!
Diwali Celebration Assembly
Today, we shared our amazing learning on the story of Rama and Sita with the whole school during our celebration assembly! Some of the children showed off their super story maps and told everyone the story. Other children showed off their amazing lego models of the special arrow that Rama uses to defeat Rawan and Rawan himself! One of the Squirrels also showed off her amazing drawing of a diva lamp and her independent writing! Fantastic job Foxes and Squirrels, the whole school could tell just how much we have enjoyed learning about Diwali!
The Foxes and Squirrels have had so much fun on our Halloween Day today! In the morning, we enjoyed lots of Halloween themed activities and we made spooky paper plate faces! In the afternoon, we enjoyed our party! We played party games and enjoyed a yummy cake and some juice! Happy Halloween everyone!
Today, the Foxes and Squirrels took part in their first ever celebration assembly! This assembly was a special Harvest assembly, during which each class shared something that they had been working on to do with Harvest. Each of the Foxes and Squirrels held up their super Harvest artwork that we have been working on! We used lots of different fruit and vegetables to do some printing with paint. We also talked about being thankful for the food we have to eat. Well done, Foxes and Squirrels!
Week Beginning: 13/9/21
This week was the Foxes and Squirrels first FULL week at school! They have been superstars! They are really starting to get used to school routines and are gaining more independence. This week, the children met Dale for the first time! They were fantastic, sitting quietly so that they didn't scare him! We had a lovely chat about all of the different pets that we all have. Well done Foxes and Squirrels - you are going to be super helpers with Dale!

10/9/21 - Welcome to Cliffedale, Foxes and Squirrels!
Wow! What a week our new Foxes and Squirrels have had! You wouldn't believe that they have only been at school for a week, they have settled in so well! They came into school looking so smart in their new Cliffedale uniform and have quickly become super members of the Cliffedale family. We have enjoyed lots of time exploring the classroom and outdoor areas, singing songs, listening to stories and making new friends. The Foxes and Squirrels have also enjoyed some art activities - they have each created a special birthday balloon to go on our special 'Up' themed Birthday board and a very special 'Starting school' handprint poem. The team have thoroughly enjoyed getting to know each and every one of the children, and we cannot wait to see what fun next week brings!
Parents and Carers,
Mrs Syed has recorded a virtual Phonics workshop in order to support you with helping your child with their Phonics learning. You can see the slides below, or you can watch Mrs Syed's presentation by going to Children - Video Resource Centre - EYFS - EYFS Phonics Workshop for Parents and Carers
We hope you find the information included useful.
The Foxes and Squirrels were very lucky this afternoon to have a virtual visit from our local vet! Hannah joined us via Zoom and she was able to give Dale a health check whilst being held by Mrs Towsey! Unfortunately for Mrs Towsey, Dale’s bladder proved to be working perfectly and she spent the rest of the afternoon with a very soggy dress on! As well as Dale’s health check, Hannah also talked to the children about the different animals that she looks after and explained how to keep animals healthy.
Thank you Hannah for taking time out of your busy schedule to see us! We had a lovely time!
Our Curriculum for this year
Here you will find a selection of free Phonics resources and games to reinforce your child's learning in Phonics. We use these in school, so your child will be familiar with them. This website also has lots of useful information for parents and carers including understanding what Phonics is, what schools do and how you can support your child.
Jolly Phonics songs are also a fabulous way of helping your child to remember the individual phonemes that we learn. We love singing the songs and doing the actions! You can find the songs here: https://vimeo.com/106231366
This resource is in a game format. The computer version is completely free, or the content can be purchased as an app for a small fee. The game gives children opportunities to practise their Phonics skills including recognising individual phonemes and tricky words, blending and segmenting while taking their own monster on a magical journey!
Here you will find a selection of free Maths games that we use in school. You can find a number of fun counting, matching, ordering, adding and subtracting games on this website.
The Cbeebies website has a number of videos, games and stories available to support our 'Theme' work. You can often find some of our weekly stories being read by famous people on Cbeebies Bedtime Stories.
