Class 3/4 VM

We are working really hard to learn about time. We played a board game to help us read times on an analogue clock.

Maths week beginning 28th November

Next week our focus is measurement. We will be focusing on estimating and measuring objects accurately using a variety of measuring tools. We will also be looking at converting measurements.

3/4NS loved having a French Cafe. We practised speaking French and had to order our food without speaking in English.

We had great fun problem solving and using our knowledge of both multiplication and division. We really enjoyed drawing on the tables!

Maths over the past few weeks we have been focusing on multiplication and division. We have worked hard to find strategies we prefer to help us solve calculations.

Maths - over the next 2 weeks we will be focusing on addition and subtraction. We will be looking at different ways to record our answers including; column method, subtraction by counting on using a number line and partitioning. We will also be learning about regrouping.

Throughout every maths lesson we will be looking at explaining our answers using verbal reasoning skills. Once a week there will also be a problem solving activity for the children to focus on logical reasoning and systematic working.

Year 3/4 Information Evening.

Tuesday 20th September

Welcome to Year 3/4 NS with Miss Smith!

You can find out about our learning on this webpage.

We are really proud of our School Council members and think they look fabulous in their green sweatshirts!

After the holiday, we will be starting a new topic called, 'Shake It!' We will be learning about how different materials change and behave.

4E love Maths and Science investigations!

Dragon Dancing to celebrate Chinese New Year. After creating different steps and practising under a sheet, everyone had a turn with the Chinese Dragon. Kung Hei Fat Choy.

The children worked so well, co-operatively, to recreate these well-known images after studying them first. They made decisions about where and how to position themselves as well as the most suitable expressions to convey emotions. They did this without the use of props and costumes but relied on their physical presence in the scene. This has been a super way to round off our topic. Well done, 4E.

We are starting a new topic all about the MATERIAL WORLD. Feel free to browse through the document below.

Happy New Year to all.

The children have a made a great start to their new term and have had a very busy week which has seen them writing their own Viking myths inspired by the 1970s classic, 'Noggin the Nog.' They are designing and describing mythical dragons for their homework and are going to be doing some Talk for Writing at home as well to prepare for some more writing next week.

In Maths the children have been classifying, drawing and making 2d and 3d shapes while making a special effort to use accurate mathematical vocabulary.

The children have been gazing out of the window in their topic work to see how scenes change over time. They really enjoyed drawing their own view from the classroom window. We used a set of pictures created by Jeannie Baker, to focus our thinking. These can be viewed as follows: http://www.slideshare.net/MrsJuteau/windows-2992791

Santa visits 4E!

Thursday 10th December: 3C and 4E performed their Christmas Cracker, this afternoon, in an attempt to make it snow just enough to have some festive fun!

Feel free to take a look at a brief outline of coverage throughout the year in Year 3 and 4

The children have made some amazing houses from other countries which they researched themselves and built for a homework project. The children were highly motivated and obviously enjoyed this practical task. Their work is on display in our Small Hall so the rest of school can enjoy it too. You can also view a selection of photographs in the Gallery section.

We hope you enjoy seeing the learning walls in 4E - they will carry on changing and evolving as we work through new topics after half term.

Our new topic is all about people and places. We are finding out about the similarities and differences between different people around the world and have begun by thinking about what we would like to share about our place. The children have planned, scripted and filmed their own fantastic tour of our school. It is too big to upload but here are some stills from each section.

Our favourite piece of music to relax to at the end of a PE lesson is, 'Wonderful World' by Louis Armstrong. The children thought of different ways of expressing the words through actions and gestures and the end result was very beautiful to watch.

We used paper-folding to help us understand more about equivalent fractions by making our own fraction walls. Some of us used measuring to help find thirds, fifiths and sixths more accurately. We have had fun creating fractions on the floor as well!

WELCOME TO 4E

The children have settled very quickly this term and have enjoyed making new friendships, establishing new routines and exploring new topics.

A highlight of the week is the Monday PE lesson in which the children have been very busy experimenting with choreography and dance. They were inspired by activities they tried in the summer holidays and chose surfing and body boarding as the main focus of partner work. After much experimentation, counting and practising and with the addition of the perfect soundtrack they were ready to take to the waves .....

In our Brainwaves topic we found out about different ways of learning. We discovered that our brains make connections for us and represented this by showing how we are connected to each other in different ways

A favourite time of the day is our Guided Reading session. Children work in small groups with the teacher discussing different texts then complete different tasks independently. This might include a comprehension task, dictionary work, independent reading, a book review, spelling practice or working with another adult.

Everyone loves relaxing in the book corner, under the tree!
